NASA Into the Future
Nov 27th, 2007 by Benjamin Galindo

Last Friday we had an excellent meeting with James Etwell who will be the president for ASA from 2008. Some really good ideas where shared, on how ASA will support NASA and other Adventist students associations in the future.

We also had a chat about the ASA Symposium that NASA will be hosting in the middle of 2008. This will be a huge event that will need a lot of planning, hard work, and involvement from you guys. We will be sharing more on this later.

We need to elect a new NASA leadership for 2008 so we will be setting a few polls on the site with candidates and relevant positions, however, you’ll need to register here to vote.

Lastly, I would like to thank Emma and Damien for being and participating at the meeting, and their willingness to turn up even at such short notice.

ASA-LT08 “Navigating the Leadership Voyage”: The ship is filling fast — 40% Full
Oct 29th, 2007 by Benjamin Galindo

Dear university student ministry leaders,

As you know, we are in the process of planning the ASA Leadership Training
weekend 1-4 February 2008, which will be held in conjunction with ASA
Convention on the Sunshine Coast. We developing this weekend around the
theme of journeying as a leader, and we will be including the following
creative ideas:

  • Life sketch of Captain Joseph Bates
  • A exploratory prayer voyage
  • Scallywag Pirate Treasure Hunt
  • Mock maritime battle with fleet of sea-kayaks

We will also have relevant presentations and workshops on the following
areas:

  • Leadership development
  • Basic operation of a local society
  • Discipleship and small group Bible studies
  • Large-scale campus events
  • Building inter-society relationships

I’m starting to put together a list of people who we could invite, and based
on some initial phone calls, the Leadership Training event is already 40%
full. However, with the busload coming up from Melbourne, we could be much
closer to capacity.

Could you send me your list of people who show a lot of leadership potential
in university student ministry and who would benefit from coming to ASA
Leadership Training 2008? I want to make sure that we can have a good
representation from all of the different regions and wouldn’t want anyone to
miss out. However, places are limited.

I hope your ministry is going well.

Regards,
Sven Östring.

Leadership Training Event~!!! :D excitement plus!
Oct 8th, 2007 by Emma Grace

Hey everyone hope you’re having wonderful holidays! Hope big camp is going awesome!

following email just been sent from Sven from ASA:

The ASA Executive Team is constructing an exciting leadership training event for you and your teams who are focusing on Adventist ministry to university students.  In February 2008, the ASA Convention will be held at the awesome location of the Sunshine.  There are rumours that the convenors of the ASA Convention already have 80 university students who expressed their intention to come to Convention, and the maximum number is 110, so spaces are filling up very fast. There will be a 12-seater bus coming up from Melbourne, and we are working on getting a 25-seater bus to come up from Sydney. So, if you do the maths, that means Convention could already be filled!!

As we have done in previous years, we are bundling ASA Convention together with ASA Leadership Training, which will be held during the weekend 1-4 February 2008 just before Convention.  We working on the theme of leadership being a journey, with the proposed title “Navigating the Leadership Voyage”. The plenary speaker will be Derek Rippingale, who is a very successful businessman from Victoria as well as being very involved in the youth ministry.  For workshops, we have asked the best student ministry leaders in recent years to facilitate relevant workshops on important issues in student ministry.  These presenters include:

  • James Etwell
  • Justin Stafford
  • Clinton Jackson
  • Johnny Wong
  • Casey Wolverton

If you have been on the university ministry circuit, you will know that these presenters are simply the best around Australia.  There is, however, a limit of 40 places for ASA Leadership Training, so don’t delay in letting your teams know about this exciting adventure and getting back to us with your numbers.

Have an awesome week!!

In His peace,
Sven

May the peace and grace of God be with you always!

Amazing Opportunities within the ASA Team 2008
Jun 10th, 2007 by Benjamin Galindo

The Adventist Students Association (ASA) is the national Adventist university ministry in Australia. The vision of ASA is to develop a vibrant and growing network of Adventist university student groups, and over the last 3 years, the ASAteam has been developing a progressive strategy for making this vision a reality. By joining our ASAteam, you will have the opportunity to transform the lives of university students on campuses all around Australia. Check out the following opportunities that are available within the ASAteam. The specific roles that are available are:

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Public Relations/Promotional Officer
  • Y12 Outreach Director
  • Mission Director
  • Symposium Convenor 2008

Scroll down for more information on these roles. The initial time commitment would be for one academic year, from January to December 2008. We would recommend people who are demonstrating significant potential as leaders and team-players to commit to the team for two years. Decisions regarding these positions will be made at the AGM which will be held at the ASA Symposium in July 2007, and it is important that you come to ASA Symposium to become part of the ASA Team 2008. See the ASA website http://www.myasa.org.au/ for more details.
